Homelessness

Not your typical Monday night in the West End.

All wrapped up and layered stocked with supplies from socks, gloves, hats, jumpers, jackets, blankets to food packs consisting of sandwiches and hot drinks and some basic sanitary items including toothbrushes and toothpaste, a team of 15+ split into two groups and ventured into the heart of the West End.

We searched over the course of 4 hours for anyone that just needed a helping hand in their homeless circumstances. Beyond facilitating the supplies the most important and rewarding part of this experience was talking to the people. They were very accommodating and appreciative just to have a quick chat and share a bit about themselves.

This short photograph series, I felt was appropriate to explore presenting in black and white format. I faced many challenges in adjusting settings and trying not to take too much of the subjects time. It was important to display both the action of giving as well as the expressive gratitude of the recipients in other to present a fuller picture and raise the right kind of awareness.
